Vikings Season 5 Episode 19 Review: What Happens in the Cave

at .

The battle between brothers is nearly amongst us.

Bjorn and Hvitserk have finally reunited on Vikings Season 5 Episode 19, and the two of them have their sights set on taking down Ivar.

While Ivar is home strengthening his defenses, two massive armies are about to descend upon him.

Bloody Lagertha Standing - Vikings Season 5 Episode 19

Who's excited?

It should be an epic battle complete with casualties. Will Ivar be one of them?

Bjorn wants to take back Kattegat, but he's hesitant about killing a brother. Hvitserk, on the other hand, has no such qualms.

He believes it his fate to kill him, and who can blame him? If someone is going to kill Ivar, it should be Hvitserk. He's put up with his crap for far too long, and it's not like Ivar would hesitate to kill him if he could do so without it making him look bad.

Ivar is all about appearances, and that's the only reason Hvitserk is even still alive.

Bjorn: Where are you going with such a large army? To support Ivar, I suppose?
Hvitserk: On the contrary, to attack him. To attack Kattegat with King Olaf, and, with you, I suppose.

Seriously though, how adorable was that Bjorn bear hug? It's so great to see Bjorn and Hvitsverk finally cross paths and team up against Ivar. Now all they need is for Ubbe to catch up with them.

The only problem with that is Ubbe may not be in the greatest shape to jump into another battle.

Ubbe Injured - Vikings Season 5 Episode 19

He's already on the mend though, so perhaps by the time they reach Kattegat, he'll be good to go.

It's time for Ubbe, Torvi, and Lagertha to head home. They already know that Bjorn is on his way there to take it back from Ivar, so they might as well join the fun. The settlement in Wessex is established, and there's no longer any reason for them to stay behind.

There might have been for Ubbe if he had truly embraced Christianity, but his fight to the very near death made him realize that he's still a Viking at heart.

It wasn't Jesus that was with him as he fought to stay alive, but Odin and Thor who were in his heart. Regardless of his religion, he will always have Alfred as an ally. He risked his life to stop a war, and Alfred will always be grateful.

Torvi: Lagertha, you're alive?
Lagertha: Yes, I'm alive. As you can see, it is difficult to kill me.

It's so great to have Lagertha back.

I know she wasn't gone that long, but it just wasn't the same without her wit. She even gave Alfred some solace at his mother's deathbed by assuring him that she reached her goal of seeing him become king. Judith is still hanging on, but it doesn't look like she'll be around much longer.

That means Alfred will have to stand on his own from now on, and he is more than capable.

Worried Looks - Vikings Season 5 Episode 19

Right now, the coming battle almost seems too easy.

How can Ivar possibly stand a chance against both Harald and Olaf's armies? He's against some pretty big odds.

It makes me wonder what big surprise we should be expecting. It's the season finale, so it can't be boring. My biggest concern right now is whether or not Harald and Olaf can actually be trusted to go through with the plan.

Olaf clearly expressed his concern that he is making the wrong decision to Hvitserk. There's a possibility he could still change his mind and honor his alliance with Ivar.

Then, we've got Harald.

Bjorn: Well if you make a deal with Ivar, then you will have to kill me.
Harald: I know. And if you do not want me to make a deal with Ivar, then maybe you will have to kill me, Bjorn Ironside.

Harald commented that he could still honor his deal with Ivar as well. If he does, Bjorn made it very clear that he will have to kill him. I don't see that happening, but Harald switching sides is a possibility.

If both Harald and Olaf choose to side with Ivar, Bjorn and Hvitserk are screwed.

It's probably not going to happen, at least, not both of them. Perhaps one will switch sides to make this battle a little more interesting?

As expected, Freydis was infuriated with Ivar for killing her baby. Ivar, for as smart as he is, finally concluded that perhaps this baby was never his in the first place. I don't know where this is going to go. They were both eerily calm with each other when Ivar was giving his big speech to the kingdom.

Ubbe in Combat - Vikings Season 5 Episode 19

Ivar managed to stop himself from killing her, but who knows if he'll change his mind.

As said before, appearances mean everything to him, and his version of the story makes him look better than the truth does. For now, at least, it looks like the two of them will stay together to save face, but behind closed doors, who knows.

Floki's adventures in the mysterious cave took a surprising turn.

I can't say I was expecting him to find a cross in there, though I had no idea what he would find. The cave collapsing around him was unfortunate. He's survived worse though, so I assume he'll be just fine.
