The Vampire Diaries Season 7 Episode 19 Review: Somebody That I Used To Know

Don't you just love getting to see the origins of a great couple?

If you love seeing two people fall in love, then you were in for quite a treat with The Vampire Diaries Season 7 Episode 19

Ever since I found out that Benzo was a thing, I was curious about the finer details of their relationship. It seemed like a very erratic shift for Bonnie to go there with Enzo.

Could This Be Their Last Dance? - The Vampire Diaries Season 7 Episode 19

It's not like they had any chemistry. I'm happy to announce that, through flashbacks, we got to see this relationship over the past few years. It was great.

Bonnie deserves someone in her life who can be there for her when she needs them. She can't be pining over Jeremy Gilbert all of her life because that would be boring.

There's no denying that Enzo is a great guy for whisking her away to safety, but I refuse to believe that the armory never knew what Enzo was up to. If they were as secretive as they made out, would they not have done locator spells on their staff to ensure they're not like double crossing them ?

It's not like Enzo's been taking the pills, so this one was a bitter pill to swallow. Sorry, was that too soon?

Right now, the poor witch doesn't have that much time left, thanks to that hideous scab that appeared on her hand while she was driving with her former BFF.

There was a lot at stake for our Bon Bon. She has less than a week to live, so everyone is kind of trying to kill everyone on Rayna's hit list in order to save Bonnie.

It's all very strenuous, but it made for some pretty hilarious kills. I think the episode could take the title for most kills on TV in a single episode this season.

Does anyone even care that Alex's sister is in the vault? If we ever get to see her, she's probably going to be a doppelganger. Just cut this storyline loose. Nothing good will come from it.

Wouldn't it be great if Lucy Bennett could appear in the flesh rather than being talked about whenever she needs to be used as a plot device?

The chick showed up in The Vampire Diaries Season 2 for one episode. Then, she was used in The Vampire Diaries Season 6 as a plot device to resurrect Bonnie, albeit off-screen. What will she be solving this time round from the land of forgotten characters that might one day serve a purpose?

Take note, Julie Plec.

I get that the show is in it's seventh year, but we need logical progression for the characters. It's not fair to invest this long in the show and have half baked storylines given to us.

That said, the scenes with Alaric and Stefan were pretty good, but Alaric has started to grate on my nerves. He seems to be a little too caught up in the finer details about why Stefan disappeared a few years ago.

Last time I checked, Caroline didn't have the opportunity to veto these Gemini twins taking up residence in her womb.

If you're a Steroline fan, then you're in luck because Caroline and Alaric are totally not sleeping in the same bedroom.

Yes, Alaric was so totally pissed off at Stefan's observation that he couldn't help but punch him. Let's just take a moment to let soak that in.

Alaric needs to take a step back and let Caroline and Stefan sort out their relationship with one another, without his input. Alaric has a knack for his partners dying, so I won't be resting easy until Caroline moves out that darn house.

"Somebody That I Used To Know" was a lot better than last week's low point. We're actually getting somewhere with the whole armory plot, but a lot of the characters seem to be acting a little out of character and it's seriously screwing with the dynamics of the show. This needs to be rectified before I can take it seriously again.

Other tidbits from the episode:

  • How cute was Benzo's first New Year's Eve celebration? Bonnie must have been very bored in that cabin for all that time. It just sucked that Enzo had to leave before things got too hot and heavy.
  • You'd think that with her days numbered, Bonnie would find a way to put the past with Damon behind her. She knew before embarking on their big friendship that he was a selfish ass.
  • Why do I get the feeling that Caroline isn't going to be talking to Stefan any time soon?
  • Can Damon not be nice to Rayna? She's helping him. Get the girl a damn cheeseburger!
