Fringe Review: "Brown Betty"

at .

Overall, "Brown Betty" was a bizarre episode to watch.  The entire episode was really about the tale of Walter’s broken heart, the direct result of Peter’s disappearance.

The show begins with Walter smoking some funky marijuana out of a bong.  He then proceeds to reorganize and label his entire lab.  Walter is such a funny character, and his cannabis trip definitely made for some entertaining television.

Going Old School

And because of this high, the episode becomes some sort of eccentric musical tale.  Walter’s tale is really only about Peter, and how Peter has stolen his heart. Walter is scared that his son will be lost forever.

Poor guy, it would be hard for any parent to lose a child… and Walter might have to lose Peter twice.  We know Walter’s mental stability wouldn’t be able to survive such heartbreak the second time around, and hope Peter will return soon.  Honestly, this show wouldn’t be the same without him!

Many members of the Division make a cameo during Walter’s tale, like the little musical masterpiece delivered by our usually serious Broyles.  He actually sang and played the piano at the same time.  If this show wasn’t Fringe, this might have been amusing to watch, but come on… this is Fringe!  It really all was a bit wacky!

We have to say that this episode held our interest for the entire 60 minutes, but really failed to introduce any new information about Peter and the unknown man that has crossed into our dimension.  We are looking forward to learning more, and with only three episode left know something important is about to happen.

There are just so many questions running through our head…

  • Will Peter eventually forgive his father or at least allow him to explain?
  • Will Peter remain in our dimension or return to his own?
  • Will anything romantic develop between Olivia and Peter?
  • Who are the Observers?  Will their involvement in the entire plot ever be revealed?
But for now, we can only guess and wait to see what happens next week!  Hopefully our hypothesis is correct, and Walternate is soon going to make an appearance.

Here are a few of our favorite Fringe quotes from this week’s episode:
Astrid: You've been smoking marijuana
Walter: I hardly classify what I've just smoked as marijuana, it's a hybrid of Chronic Supernova and Afghani Kush. I call it Brown Betty. | permalink
Walter: It's just a story, but as with all good stories things aren't always as they seem. | permalink
Peter: You can tell a lot about a person by the music they listen to. | permalink
