Jo recognizes Liv at Friends-giving and soon we find out that Jo is Liv and Luke's older sister. Jo is also Kai's twin. She saved their life when Kai when on his murdering rampage back in 1994.

We find out that in the Gemini Coven, when you turn 22 you merge with your twin and the stronger one becomes the leader, while the weaker one dies. Kai didn't have magic and that's why his parents kept reproducing until they made another set of twins.

Tyler is determined to keep Liv safe.

Jo hid her magic in the hunting knife that Kai stabbed her with. On the road trip, the guys meet Jo's dad who tries to kill her via magic when he finds out that Kai might come back. Elena saves Jo's life and the boys stop the spell.

They head back east with the knife, but unfortunately Kai finds it back in 1994. He now has magic and the ascendant and some of Bonnie's blood from stabbing her, paving the way for him to return.

Meanwhile Elena asks Damon to help her get Bonnie back.
