Everyone is watching Riverdale High play basketball ball. The team lost another game.

Archie tries to inspire and encourage the team, but Julian Blossom trashes the team and is feeling down.

Frank tells Archie that he's going to recruit a farm kid to join the team. The recruit is Reggie Mantle.

Toni and Cheryl make out in the girl's locker room. Cheryl wants to go steady with Toni, but Toni thinks it's for Squaresville and rejects the idea.

Frank and Archie visit Reggie; Archie asks him about his life. Reggie used to play at Stonewall Prep before dropping out; he stepped up to help take care of the farm. Reggie's family wasn't helped by the GI Bill.

Reggie is intrigued by Betty from the window. Archie shuts the curtain on him.

Hal (from Dr. Werthers' suggestion) encourages Betty to join the River Vixens.

Lizzo is proud of Toni for getting what she wants from Cheryl. She thinks Toni will drop Cheryl when it's all done.

Tabitha is back at Riverdale. She talks about the tour she was on; she witnessed a lot of injustices while she was in the different towns. Tabitha is shocked that Toni is a River Vixen.

Archie introduces Reggie to his friends in the student lounge. Veronica flirts hard with Reggie.

Tabitha reconnects with Jughead; she reveals that she's read Mr. Rayberry's books and loves sci-fi.

Kevin asks Veronica for a job at the Babylonium. Veronica offers him a job, but she also asks him if he can dig into Clay's life and find out if he's into her.

A basketball practice game is held between Reggie's team vs. Julian's team. Reggie only has himself, Archie, Fangs, and Dilton Doily. Reggie's team wins in a very close victory; Dilton scores the winning goal.

Archie invites everyone to Pop's for a post-practice tradition. The tension in the locker room is thick.

Cheryl assigns each of the Vixens to one of the basketball players. Cheryl is paired with Julian, Toni is with Archie, and Betty is given Reggie.

Jughead asks Tabitha out on a date to the movies when Mr. Rayberry doesn't answer the door.

Toni tells Cheryl that she doesn't want to be a River Vixen anymore. Part of it is also because Cheryl asked to go steady; she doesn't feel like the scene is vibing with her.

Veronica questions to Clay about Tabitha and Jughead going on a date. Veronica gives hints to Clay that she's interested in him, but he doesn't respond.

Betty tells Reggie the truth about the dance show and what she was doing with Archie. Reggie relieves Betty of her River Vixen duties and leaves immediately.

Reggie turns Archie down from grabbing lunch.

Toni wants to start a literary society for the black students at Riverdale. She invites Tabitha and Clay to join; she admits that she only joined the Vixens because of a crush on Cheryl. Clay encourages Toni based on his experiences with Kevin.

Kevin tells the truth to Veronica that he and Clay are gay and together. Veronica reveals it was all a plan to get Kevin to admit the truth.

Julian reveals his family is hosting a booster dinner to help raise money to build a new gym. Reggie tells Archie that he isn't going to the mixer; he reveals the racist treatment he got at Stonewall Prep.

Toni asks Cheryl for help in getting student funding for the literary society. She agrees to help, but she's concerned Principal Featherhead will shut it down. Cheryl asks Toni if she broke up with her because she's white; Toni reveals it was one of the reasons why.

People attend the Blossom mixer; Archie is called over to speak with the adults. Comments are made about Reggie and his race at the party; Archie needs fresh air. Cheryl overs all the comments her family has made.

Reggie visits the Babylonium to watch a film. He rebuffs one of Veronica's advances.

Tabitha gives Jughead a book of stories to read. She recommends he read "The Comet." They decide to stay in at the train car to read the story.

Reggie asks about the party, but Archie chooses not to talk about it.

Basketball practice is held while the coach is busy. Archie punches Julian after he keeps body-checking Reggie. Archie yells at his teammates to ensure everyone works with Reggie.

Cheryl gives the booster mixer money to Toni to help with creating the literary magazine. Toni invites Cheryl to The Dark Room and wants to try their dating again.

Reggie and Archie talk about the punch. Reggie invites Archie to grab a burger at Pop's.

Sheriff Keller tells Jughead that Mr. Rayberry is dead. He says that he committed suicide and left a note for himself.
