Midnight, Texas Season 2 Episode 1 Review: Head Games
Lisa Babick at .The fun and games are over for the Midnighters!
On Midnight, Texas Season 2 Episode 1, Manfred dealt with some nasty aftereffects from swallowing six demons at the end of Midnight, Texas Season 1 Episode 10, but his problems were only the tip of the iceberg for what the Midnighters are going to have to deal with next!
Energy healer Kai has a big surprise for the team -- and not the good kind.
There was definitely something off about Kai when he healed the man who couldn't walk. Getting up close and personal with the afflicted is to be expected, but there was something else going on, as well.

We didn't see any smoke or life force coming out of the man, but Kai was taking something from him.
And later when he got all of the demon residue out of Manfred, there was clear evidence he took in some of the demon smoke.
I'm just surprised no one else saw what happened.
Olivia already doesn't trust the guy, but they were so focused on helping Manfred that it seems that small, yet important detail, went unnoticed.
What I want to know is how Kai came to be in possession of Colconnar's head because that's a big mystery.
It's not clear yet if Patience knows what's going on, but I'm going to guess she has no clue that her hubby is a very bad dude.
It's also disturbing that The Rev is fully backing Kai and his weirdness. For a guy who's supposed to be full of faith, he should be more wary of a guy in possession of strange, supernatural powers.
I also have to wonder if Kai somehow was able to capture all the demon residue he purged from Manfred.
If his goal is to avenge Colconnar's death, then he's going to need all the help he can get because the Midnighters will always get the upper hand eventually.
Kai might have been hoping that Manfred would have become fully possessed before he arrived (thanks to The Rev) to save the day.
It would have been much easier if Manfred had been the one to kill all the Midnighters.
Poor Manfred was having a tough time fighting off the demons inside him.
It was getting so bad, he hallucinated that Xylda had returned to help him, but she ended up not being the kind-hearted grandma we had grown to love.
I kind of liked the evil Xylda. Not for the long term, but for that brief moment, she was fun.
But knowing that Kai has alternative motives, you have to wonder if he really did exorcize all of Manfred's demons or if it was all smoke and mirrors.
Maybe he put the demons at bay until he could use them at a later time?
Whatever Kai is, his presence is slowly starting to infect the rest of Midnight.
Creek has had enough and is leaving for Austin. Good riddance, I say.
If she's not willing to stand by Manfred's side through thick and thin, then there's no point to their relationship.
You swallowed six whole demons. Took them like a champ. A source of pride, if you ask me.
Xylda
It wouldn't have lasted anyway, no matter where they ended up living.
And frankly, she doesn't have what it takes to be a Midnighter, and the team will be better off without her.
Manfred's heart will be broken, but he'll get over her soon enough. And who knows, maybe someone new will come to town, to ease his pain.
But he shouldn't involve himself in a romance with anyone anyway because he's going to be too busy fighting off all the evil headed their way.
Fiji and Bobo were having a nonstop lovefest most of the hour, but if her dying plants were any indication, their days of bliss are about to come to an end.
Colconnar had his sights set on Fiji, so it would make sense that she would eventually become the center of attention for some other demonic force.
Just because they closed the veil doesn't mean that Midnight is no longer a magnet for evil.
And other demons have already arrived in town.
Joe found himself fighting off a group of them, but he ended up getting some unexpected help from the bearded guy who had one badass demon slayer gadget on him.
Who he is and why he's there is curious, but I'd bet it's not because he wanted to meet the infamous angel, Joe Strong.
I didn't think I was the marrying type, but isn't this what every woman wants? For a man to know her needs and desires before she even knows?
Olivia
Olivia and Lem are still Midnight's power couple, and they're happier than ever now that they're married, but there's a chance there may be some effect on Lem for taking on some of Manfred's demons.
We'll know soon enough!
Over to you!
What did you think of "Head Games"?
How did Kai get Colconnar's head and what is his end game?
Has The Rev gotten the wool pulled over his eyes, or is he a part of Kai's team? Does Patience know what's going on?
And is Manfred really cured?
