The popular actor will lead the cast of The Witcher, an adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy novels, and will serve as Cavill's first regular TV gig since The Tudors wrapped in 2010.
"Based on the best-selling fantasy series, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia (Cavill), a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts," reads the official logline.
"But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together."

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will serve as showrunner of the fantasy epic. She has previously worked on hit shows such as The Defenders, Daredevil, Power, and Parenthood.
Alik Sakharov is on board to direct some of the first season's eight episodes. He's directed episodes of Game of Thrones and Black Sails, so we think it's fair to say the series will have some big battle scenes.
Cavill has appeared in a string of hit movies since his appearance as Charles Brandon on The Tudors.

He is probably most well-known for his role as Superman in the DC Extended Universe, and there's no telling how his casting on The Witcher could affect his involvement in future movies in the superhero franchise.
This is not the first time the novel series has been adapted. It was first adapted as a Polish movie in 2001, with a 13-episode TV series being released a year later.
It is also a successful video game franchise that released three games from 2007-2015.
