The Handmaid's Tale Casts Offred's Mother!!!
Paul Dailly at .The Handmaid's Tale is one of the most anticipated shows of 2018, and for good reason.
It's one of the best shows on TV, and it features some of the best acting around. That's part of the reason why the show has been winning awards left, right and center.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cherry Jones has joined the cast of The Handmaid's Tale Season 2.
She will take on the role of June/Offred's mother, Holly, in a guest-starring role on the fourth episode back.
In Margaret Atwood's 1985 novel, June spoke openly about her mother being a feminist and what that meant to her.
There's no word yet on whether Holly will appear in the present or if it will be via flashbacks. There's also the possibility that she made it to the safe haven of Canada.
The Handmaid's Tale Season 1 concluded with Offred in an uncertain place. She had been snatched from the Waterford household and bundled into the back of a van.
Nick urged her to trust him and just roll with it, but can anyone really be trusted in the crazy world of Gilead?
The official description for The Handmaid's Tale Season 2 reads "The Emmy-winning drama series returns with a second season shaped by Offred’s pregnancy and her ongoing fight to free her future child from the dystopian horrors of Gilead. “Gilead is within you” is a favorite saying of Aunt Lydia."
"In Season Two, Offred and all our characters will fight against – or succumb to – this dark truth."
When it came to casting the Emmy winning Cherry Jones, series lead Elisabeth Moss had a big say in how it all came about.
“She's terrific literary character who’s now going to come to life for the first time, and so it was important to me who that was,” Moss dished to THR.
“I was obsessed with it for weeks and bothering everybody about it — way before anybody cared to talk about it. Cherry was my fantasy choice. I sent her the script, she wrote me a lovely email back, and she said yes almost immediately.”
