The Mist Canceled After One Season

If you were hoping to find out what happened to the characters after The Mist Season 1's crazy finale, we have bad news for you.

Spike TV has swung the ax on the series after one season of low ratings, and less than stellar reviews.

When the show was ordered straight-to-series by the network in 2016, it was seen as a way for the network to re-enter the scripted market.

Heading into the Church - The Mist Season 1 Episode 2

Unfortunately, the ratings were not there and the show ultimately averaged fewer than 500,000 viewers and a paltry 0.1 rating among adults 18-49 for first-run episodes.

The series was based on a Stephen King novella about a town that is rocked by the arrival of a sudden mist that brings a lot of danger with it.

It starred the likes of Morgan Spector, Alyssa Sutherland, Gus Birney, Danica Curcic, Okezie Morro, Luke Cosgrove and Frances Conroy.

The Mist Season 1 Episode 10 concluded with the characters learning that the government was throwing prisons into the town on a train, possibly proving it was all a big conspiracy or some sort of experiment.

Given the ratings, the cancellation is not exactly surprising, but there was no other show to benchmark The Mist against to assess whether it would be renewed.

It would not have been out the realm of possibility that the network could have renewed it for another go around to save face, but alas, the show won't be back.

Spike will change its name in 2018 to Paramount TV and it will attempt to leave the past behind as it tries to become a destination for first-class shows.

MTV's The Shannara Chronicles is also moving to the network from MTV in a few weeks.

Over to you, The Mist Fanatics! What do you think of the news? Did the show deserve an ending?
