Queen of the South Season 1 Episode 12 Review: Quinientos Mil

at .

Who will survive after Queen of the South Season 1 Episode 12? I don’t know, but I’m willing to make some guesses.

Certainly, Brenda appears to be the person most likely to die. What were she and Teresa thinking? That they’d find the coordinates, walk in and say, Hey we found you. Now give us $500K, like it was some giant game of hide and go seek with a jackpot prize at the end?

Risking It All - Queen of the South

It's okay to be scared. The way things have been going, you should be.

Teresa

As scared as they were, and with reason after finding all of those decomposing bodies, they really needed to woman up once it became obvious their captors knew who they were.

Did they expect cartel members to play nice? How could Brenda think that if she just begged enough, they’d leave her son alone? After all she’s been through, could she possibly be that naive?

Unfortunately, it appeared so, and it may end up getting her killed.

When Teresa’s car flipped over and she crawled out, I was immediately reminded of her car accident with Epifanio, only this time it looked like her fate could be far worse.

Elsewhere, Camila was finally taking control, although I found myself wondering if she was counting her chickens before they’d hatched.

I was holding my breath as James and his team attacked the DEA safe house. If they couldn’t get the Jimenez cartel’s lieutenant out safely, all of Camila’s plans for a partnership would have fallen apart.

Luckily for her, James is very good at his job. If anyone deserves a Bentley, I think it’s him. Although I don’t know that James would want something quite that flashy, I’m guessing his girlfriend would love it.

Campaign Manager: You know what you have to do.
Epifanio: Yes, I know. Kill my wife. If only I could find her.

That Queen of the South quote says all you need to know about Epifanio.

Love and hate truly are the two sides of the same coin, at least they are for Epifanio and Camila. Her betrayal could be a death sentence, but I’ll be shocked if that’s the case. Not that I completely underestimate Epifanio, but Camila does seem to be the smarter of the two.

If that wasn’t clear already, it was made obvious when she scooped up Isabella from boarding school before Epifanio could get to her. Even Cesar was impressed with Camila being several steps ahead.

The fact is, you hate him more than you love me, and that breaks my heart.

Isabella

But the one thing Camila couldn’t control was the reaction of her teenage daughter. Does Isabella believe that her father is actually trying to legitimize the family name or does she know that it’s all for show and that’s good enough for her?

Either way, she’s equally upset about being used as a pawn in her parent’s game of one upsmanship, and about being embarrassed in front of her friends.

Who will survive next weeks’ season finale? I have no idea, but with season 2 just confirmed, I can’t wait to find out.
