The Lyons came roaring back on Wednesday night, with Empire Season 2 Episode 1 picking up right where every Empire Season 1 episode left off:
Atop all network ratings.
The Season 2 opener drew 16 million viewers, along with a massive 6.5 rating among 18-49-year olds.
The anticipation of Empire's return likely helped Rosewood become Fox's first strong series premiere of the week, as this Morris Chestnut-fronted drama drew 7.4 million viewers and a 2.4 rating.
Elsewhere around the dial:
- The Mysteries of Laura returned to 6.9 million and 1.2 rating; while two hours worth of Law & Order: SVU produced 8.2 million total viewers and a 1.7 rating among young adults.
- On ABC, The Middle was right on par with last season’s premiere; same for The Goldbergs. Modern Family garnered a 3.1 rating, far down from last September's 3.8, while black-ish scored a 2.4, up from its May finale.
- Finally, Nashville Season 4 Episode 1 earned a 1.3 demographic rating, just a tad lower than last year's opener.
