Showtime Network President David Nevins announced today that both of their original Sunday programs will be returning in 2015.
Homeland Season 5 will consist of 12 episodes and The Affair Season 2 will be comprised of 10 new installments.
“In its fourth season, HOMELAND has brilliantly reinvented itself. It continues to capture the attention of a devoted fan base, and has provided an enviable platform for the successful launch of THE AFFAIR,” said Nevins. “With thought-provoking, relevant and addictive storylines, both series have been embraced, dissected and much debated week after week. We’re excited to see more from these complex shows in 2015.”
While Homeland Season 4 has had steady viewership averaging six million viewers across platforms, The Affair Season 1 has become the network's most time-shifted original series, delivering 3.9 million viewers across platforms.
Homeland stars Claire Danes (Carrie Mathison) and Mandy Patankin (Saul Berenson) have both won Primetime Emmy Awards for their performances for past seasons. Homeland also stars Rupert Friend, Tracy Letts, Laila Robins and Nazanin Boniadi.
The Affair explores the psychological and emotional effects of an extramarital affair, and stars Ruth Wilson and Joshua Jackson as married couple Alison and Cole, while Dominic West and Maura Tierney star as Noah and Helen. This serialized drama will continue the action of the current season with the same cast and the implications of the affair into Season 2.
