Game of Thrones Season Finale Breaks Series Ratings

It turns out HBO viewers aren't remotely afraid of winter.
The Game of Thrones Season 2 finale garnered 4.2 million viewers on its first 9 p.m. run last night (5.1 million including repeat airings), becoming the first episode in series history break the four million mark for its initial offering.
That's a 38% increase over the first season finale.
Overall, Game of Thrones Season 2 averaged 3.7 million viewers per week. It's already been renewed for a third season, with showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss signed on for two more.
UPDATE: Count Longmire in as a record-breaker! This drama debuted to 4.1 million viewers and became that network's most-watched scripted premiere of all-time.
