Dexter Spoilers: A Spiritual Search, A New Serial Killer and More

at .

Dexter has a new showrunner, Scott Buck, and, based on this promo, a new focus.

But what will that focus be? In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Buck answers this question in a fascinating fashion:

"What does it mean when a serial killer goes on a spiritual search? Dexter has always known what he doesn’t want to pass onto his son - his “dark passenger” - but now he’s beginning to ask what he does want to pass on. So that’s forcing him to look around to see what else there is in life."

A Proud, Dark Father

Describing the character as "more evolved," Buck outlines the sort of serial killer we'll see when this Showtime drama returns in the fall:

He's "very strong, sure-of-himself, which would be the difference from the Dexter of last year, where Dexter was questioning himself about everything. A year has passed since the end of last season, so Dexter has put his life in order. Things are good for him. He’s very centered, strong and focused, much the same way he was in season 1, but now he knows so much more."

As for big-time guest stars, Buck gives us an in-depth look at Professor Gellar, played by Edward James Olmos.

He compares his character to the Zodiac Killer and says he "becomes a big person of interest in some crimes that are being committed in Miami."

Perhaps similar to the Trinity Killer storyline, Buck teases that Dexter will grow curious over Gellar's motivations; we'll also get to know Travis Marshall, the professor's well-intentioned protege, played by Colin Hanks.

Dexter Quotes

The only real question I have is why in a building full of cops, all supposedly with a keen insight to the human soul, is Doakes the only one who gets the creep from me.

I think this is a friendly message like, "Hey! wanna play?" and yes I wanna play. I really really do.
